Weather for the whole family

The LightMap Home Station puts the weather on your wall in lights that even the little ones can understand. One glance tells everyone what it's like outside, what to wear, what the week looks like and what's up in the night sky.

No app, no screen, no scrolling. Just look up on the way out the door.

Three rules and you can read it

Everything on the LightMap works the same way, so once kids learn these three rules they can read the whole station on their own.

Lit-up means look

If a light is on, it's telling you something. Dark means nothing to see there today.

Green to red

Green is calm and easy. Yellow and orange mean pay attention. Red means big weather.

Blinking means "now"

Only four lights ever blink: a weather warning, today in the week, the temperature right now and the space station flying over.

now

Right now

The icons across the top show what's happening outside this minute: sun, clouds, rain, snow, thunder, wind and fog, plus air quality, pollen and weather alerts.

Kids, try this: Look out the window, then check the lights. Do they match?

today

Today

Today is split into morning, afternoon, evening and night, with wind, sun or moon, clouds and rain for each. Plan the walk to school, recess and the trip to the park at a glance.

Kids, try this: Find today's rain drops. Is it an umbrella day?

this week

This week

Seven days in a row, with today highlighted. The colors show whether each day will be warmer or cooler than normal for your town, so the whole family can see the weekend coming.

Kids, try this: Every morning, find the pulsing dot. Is today warmer or cooler than normal?

what to wear

What to wear

The station suggests an outfit from the morning low and the afternoon high: coat or hoodie, long sleeves or a tee, pants or shorts, hat and gloves, sunglasses or an umbrella.

Green lights add a layer, yellow means sun and warmth, blue means rain.

Kids, try this: Let the lights pick your outfit. Check before you get dressed, then see if you guessed right.

sky

The sky

Tonight's moon shape, plus four lights that only turn on when something is worth going outside for: a bright planet, clear skies for stars, a meteor shower, or the International Space Station passing overhead.

The space station light starts pulsing about five minutes before it flies over.

Kids, try this: When the space station light starts pulsing, go outside and look for a bright dot moving across the sky.

°F feels like

Thermometer

The column down the right side shows how warm it feels outside. Cold readings light up in blue, comfortable ones in teal and green, and hot days climb toward red. The blinking light marks the feels-like temperature right now.

Kids, try this: Guess how warm it feels outside, then find the pulsing light. How close were you?

setup

Easy for grown-ups

Plug it in, connect it to your 2.4 GHz WiFi and pick your town. It updates on its own from there, with no app to deal with.

how it's made
